VRLA vs Lithium-Ion UPS Batteries
Two different ways to store backup power — the right one depends on budget, space and how hot your battery room actually runs.
VRLA and Lithium-Ion, Compared
VRLA (sealed lead-acid) is the well-proven, lower-upfront-cost option, with a typical service life of 3-5 years — shorter in hot battery rooms, since heat is the single biggest factor that shortens VRLA life. Lithium-ion costs more initially but lasts considerably longer, weighs less for the same capacity, takes up less floor space, and tolerates higher ambient temperatures better — genuinely relevant in the Gulf climate, where battery rooms often run hotter than a datasheet assumes.
Neither option is universally correct. We size either chemistry based on your budget, available space, expected service life, and how much the battery room's actual operating temperature would shorten a VRLA bank's lifespan — rather than defaulting to one option across every project.
VRLA vs Lithium-Ion at a Glance
- Upfront cost: VRLA lower, lithium-ion higher
- Typical service life: VRLA 3-5 years, lithium-ion considerably longer
- Weight and footprint: lithium-ion lighter and more compact for the same capacity
- Heat tolerance: lithium-ion holds up better in hot battery rooms
- Best fit: VRLA for budget-sensitive, well-cooled installations; lithium-ion where space, weight or battery-room heat are real constraints
Frequently Asked Questions
Is lithium-ion always worth the extra upfront cost?
Not always — for a well-cooled battery room with no space or weight constraint, VRLA's lower upfront cost and proven track record can be the more economical choice over the UPS's service life. Lithium-ion earns its premium where battery-room heat, floor space, or weight genuinely matter.
How much does heat actually affect VRLA battery life?
Significantly — VRLA life shortens meaningfully for every few degrees above its rated storage temperature, and Gulf-climate battery rooms often run hotter than the datasheet assumes unless they're actively cooled. That's a major reason we check battery-room conditions, not just the UPS spec, before recommending VRLA over lithium-ion.

Maintenance and support after handover
Our work does not end at commissioning. We keep your systems running with a maintenance plan built around your site.
1, 2 or 3-year maintenance contracts
Planned preventive maintenance visits, inspection and test reports, and recommendations, on a contract length that suits your site.
Emergency visits
Emergency call-outs are part of the maintenance contract and are handled with priority according to the criticality of your site.
One team for every system
We maintain every system we supply and install, and we can take over the maintenance of existing systems on your site.
Visit frequency, emergency arrangements and spare parts are agreed with each client based on the site and the systems covered.
